CONTEST!

OMG! This is huge news, people.

I have FIVE Harry Potter prize packs to give away! The prize packs consist of a paperback copy of EACH of the last THREE Harry Potter novels.

I'm so excited that I CAN'T STOP USING CAPSLOCKS!!!!!
This is the first ever giveaway I've ever done on this site, and I'm really stoked about it. The prize pack includes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the breathtaking finish to this remarkable series. The final chapter to Harry’s adventures will be released in paperback July 7th! It all comes down to this — a final face off between good and evil. You plan to pull out all the stops, but every time you solve one mystery, three more evolve.

So, here's how this is going to work: I'm going to RANDOMLY choose five winners, one each week for the next three weeks and then TWO winners the fourth week.

How do you enter? Just leave a comment on this post and answer the following question:

What is your favorite moment from the Harry Potter saga?

Again, I will be selecting one entry at random to be the winner. Next week I'll have a different question and a different winner. And so on and so forth for the duration of the contest.

ENTER NOW! Enter often, if you like. I'm not picky!

SO EXCITING!

In the movies-- I love the wizard's chess scene.

In the books --- I love the trips to the "bank".

The conclusion of the Triwizard Tournament, both in the book and the movie.

Congrats on your first contest! This is an awesome way to start! I have so many favorite moments. I guess the best one would be the very first time I picked up book #1 and started reading about Harry.

Moment? As in singular? Uh.... I guess I'd have to pick the final Hogwarts battle scene.
Here are more of my thoughts on that scene from my own site: Reading Rumpus

Please enter me in your fantastic contest! Thanks :-)

Love all the Harry Potter books but have to say favorite moment would be when Harry dips his head into the fountain to see the past

Yeah! Um, my favorite HP moment? Well, I'm going to have to agree that the Triwizard Tourney was pretty bad ass and the World Cup was awesome.

Ohh! So cool! My favorite is probably the scene in which the twins decide to make an exit worth their name! It's genius both in the book (the 5th one) and in the movie. I especially love the bits that mention it later such as teachers never helping Umbridge in cleaning the mess even though they could easily spell it away. :)

I would have to say my favourite bit is in OotP, in the Ministry of Magic, when Voldemort possesses Harry. My heart breaks every time I read when Harry thinks the pain of possession isn't worth it, and then he realises if he dies, he can see Sirius again. It just showcases the entire series so beautifully, that love conquers Voldemort.

It is so hard to pick just one, but maaaybe my favorite moment is the scene in the shrieking shack during the climax of PoA, where all of the different plotlines of the book twist together and we find out the truth about Sirius, Lupin, and Pettigrew. Everything came together so amazingly well and I love everything to do with the Marauder's generation! :)

krisomniac said...

Definitely the first Defense Against the Dark Arts class with Remus Lupin-- everything from the disembodied hand to Snape in a dress, to Remus' explanation later on for stepping in front of Harry.

when the Whomping Willow destroys the flying car. that's one tough tree...bring it Potter!

My favourite moment is Harry saving Malfoy from the fiendfyre. :)

My favourite moment is definitely when Harry and Sirius are reunited and Harry finally knows Sirius is his (good) godfather.

Not a moment so much as a reading event: I read the first five books in 3 days sitting at the beach. So lovely, just getting to immerse oneself in a world :)

My favorite moment is at the end of the last book after the Battle of Hogwarts when Luna provides a perfect (calculated!) distraction so that Harry can escape the after party.

also, overall, I love the way that J.K. develops the character over the course of the seven books. His slow to grow, eventual courage made him even more heroic then Harry at the end of the seventh book, at least in my opinion. :) Not that Harry isn't wonderfully heroic, it just felt like Nelville's heroism was a more everyday, and therefore more spectacular form of heroism.

I'm sure everyone has read "Deathly Hallows" by now, but just in case, spoilers below:

My favorite moment is when Harry uses the Resurrection Stone and brings back his parents, Sirius, and Remus. Harry has this absolutely amazing line, where he says, in that selfless way of his (slightly paraphrased, sorry), "I didn't mean for any of you to die. Especially (Remus, after just having had his son, Teddy). And Remus says, "He will know why I died and I hope he will understand. I was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life."

It kills me every time I read it, because I think it's just one of the main things that drives the characters in these novels.

God, I am such a sap, because I honestly wasn't on the Snape bandwagon until the last book, and then I broke down crying when Snape sends out the patronus and Dumbledore says, "After all these years?" and Snape replies, "Always."

I feel like this is kind of an obvious one, but looking at the other comments, perhaps not. For me, the final confrontation with Voldemort, with everyone watching Harry, and Harry, who knows he gets to win, and the huge surge of relief when it's over and we the readers, like Harry, aren't really sure what to do with ourselves. <3

It sounds silly, but my favorite moment is when Harry first gets the invitation to Hogwarts. He finally knows that there is something more for him out there. It opens up such a world of possibilities.

My favorite moment is the Sorting Hat scene in book one - Harry is so afraid of being put in Slytherin - which to me, tells so much about Harry in that moment. He doesn't *know* anyone yet, he's brand new, but instinctively, he knows what he doesn't want: To be placed in Slytherin.

That set up everything for me and I never looked back.

I think my favorite scene is Harry's visit to the Burrow for the first time. Seeing dishes cleaning themselves, and all this magic going on, yet you get the sense he's a bit more bewildered by this loving and accepting family he's found himself surrounded by. It's achingly in character.
Or where the twins leave school with style. :D

My favorite moment in the series ... I must pause a moment to extract fanon from canon ...

The chapter "Spinner's End" from Half Blood Prince. It's one of the rare moments in the novels when we get to see the world beyond Harry. And it's awesome because we get to see Snape without Harry's biases toward the man. Plus, Wormtail gets smashed into a wall ... it's a chapter that I read over and over.

Hm, my favorite moment...that's hard. I honestly cannot pick. I love all the Harry Potter moments...but hm, I think that when he finds out when he's a wizard...I think that is one of my favorites.

My favorite moment was probably when Snape killed Dumbledore in the Tower, with Harry invisible and entirely helpless.

I've always loved Snape: I like moral ambiguity in a man! At that moment, he transformed from misunderstood (yet possibly ginger-y good!)cookie to Rotten Irredeemably Evil Pastille, and the way JKR turned it around our heads - that he was in fact fulfilling a binding promise and trying to save Draco from doing the Dark Lord's bidding - goodness that was awesome. In my head, all his actions that aided the side of light happened because he has solid moral fiber underneath all that snark, and not because he had the hots for Lily (though that was pretty cute, too). :)

The final battle. It met all my expectations and more. I wanted the final showdown to be at Hogworts, I wanted everyone to witness it and I wanted Harry to defeat Voldemort in a most spectacular fashion. Done, done and done! Perfect ending.

One of my favorite moments, huh? I really like the end of Prisoner of Azkaban when a bunch of info about Harry's parents, etc. is revealed.

Ron's "love potion" incident in the sixth book is another great point in the book.

One of my favorite moments is Fred and George explaining kindly to their mother that they don't want to be prefects "it would take all the fun out of life". Heh heh. In the interests of honesty, I have to admit that I got to dislike Harry so much after Order of the Phoenix that I only skimmed 6 and never read 7....but I know I have Harry fans who would love a set as a summer reading prize! So I'm entering for them (-:)

I have many favorite moments. One of them is when Harry finds the mirror at Hogwarts & can see his parents when he looks in the mirror.

Does that last line 'Enter often' mean that I can enter more than once? Also, if I entered once I'm in for all of three giveaways, right? And last, but not least, what do you mean final chapter is up on the 7th? (Should have asked about that one earlier, truly should have.)

luna_lunak(at)yahoo(dot)com

Lacy said...

Luna, you may enter more than once, if you want, but you can only win once. And yes, you're entered for all three of the remaining giveaways.

The "final chapter" I'm referring to is the seventh book, which will be released in paperback on the 7th of July! :)

My favorite moment: All of Book 5. Dark and amazing. It's hard to pick just one moment in there to stick with, because I like everything in it. So, we'll take 5 as all one event!

You said we could enter often so I'm entering again! I could list favorite moments forever! I was so glad to find out what Snape was really about. For so many books I wondered if he was good or bad. That was a great storyline that JK Rowling built up.

I also loved the part where Ron gets yelled at by his Mum's mail in the dining room after stealing and wrecking the enchanted car. I could feel the mortification of Ron through that entire scene.
